How to switch from iMedDoc to Ask Brigid in Ireland

Check your iMedDoc renewal date, ask for a full export in writing, and let Ask Brigid import it. The order of steps for Irish practices, and what to check.

Researched and written by Ask Brigid's AI pipeline and published automatically — not individually reviewed by a person. Useful as a starting point; check clinical, legal and regulatory details against a primary source before relying on them.

Ask Brigid is practice software built for speed. Brigid Clinical Intelligence takes on the admin, and patients pay by card through a link.

To switch from iMedDoc to Ask Brigid, check your renewal date, give iMedDoc notice before it renews, and ask its Ireland support team in writing for a full export. Ask Brigid imports the export and moves patients, appointments, clinical notes, letters and billing. Your clinic checks the move before go-live, and migration is included on both plans.

Our earlier guide to extracting your records from iMedDoc covers where the data sits and what an export should contain. This page covers the switch itself: the order of steps, what to ask iMedDoc, and what to check before go-live.

When can you leave iMedDoc?

You can leave at the end of your contract term, provided you cancel before it renews. iMedDoc's FAQ says "a standard contract length for iMedDoc is 12 months". Its pricing page adds: "The initial contract length is 12 months. This will auto-renew unless cancelled in advance." That page is for iMedDoc UK, and it says iMedDoc UK and iMedDoc Ireland differ. So the date that counts for an Irish practice is the one in your own contract.

Find the contract, note the renewal date and the notice it requires, and put both in your diary. Most of the planning below fits inside the months before that date.

What should you ask iMedDoc for?

Ask iMedDoc's Ireland support team, in writing, for a full export of your practice data. The FAQ lists support@imeddoc.ie and +353 21 2427470 for Ireland. Put these questions in the same email so the answers come back together:

  • [ ] Does the export include every patient, appointment, clinical note, letter, scanned document, invoice and outstanding balance?
  • [ ] What format will each part come in?
  • [ ] Is there a fee for the export, and is a test export available first?
  • [ ] On what date will you deliver it, and how?
  • [ ] Will I keep access to iMedDoc until I've checked the export?

Keep the reply. It tells you whether the export lands before your renewal date and what the move will cost on the iMedDoc side.

How does the move to Ask Brigid work?

The move follows the four steps on the Changeover page:

  1. Agree what moves. You and Ask Brigid list the records to bring across: patients, appointments, clinical notes, letters and billing. The scope goes in writing.
  2. Rehearse with representative records. Ask Brigid imports a sample of your iMedDoc data. Your team checks patient matching, documents, dates, appointments and invoices.
  3. Run a clinic day with your secretary. Your secretary works a full clinic day in Ask Brigid: finding records, preparing letters, managing the list.
  4. Your clinic says go, in writing. You check the moved records and confirm go-live. Anything missing or wrong is fixed first.

Then it's a clean switch. There's no period of running both systems. Before you say go, check that each patient appears once, that notes and letters sit on the right record, that booked appointments are on the right dates, and that balances match what iMedDoc showed.

What changes when your records move from AWS UK to AWS Dublin?

Your records move from a UK data centre to an Irish one. iMedDoc's FAQ says it is hosted on Amazon Web Services in the UK. Ask Brigid hosts records in AWS Dublin (eu-west-1), runs Ask Brigid's Clinical Intelligence on Google Cloud in the EU, and encrypts data in transit and at rest. If you leave Ask Brigid later, you get a full export in a structured, machine-readable format, free, within five working days.

When is iMedDoc the better fit?

iMedDoc is the better fit if insurer billing from inside the system matters most to you. Its FAQ says iMedDoc bills insurers electronically through Healthcode EDI. In July 2026, iMedDoc announced an integration with MedoSync for insurer claims, due from autumn 2026. Ask Brigid doesn't submit insurer claims; your team uses each insurer's own channels. Ask Brigid is also in early access, and no practice is using it yet. For a side-by-side view, see how Ask Brigid compares with iMedDoc.

What does the switch cost?

On the Ask Brigid side, record migration is included in both plans: Essential at €129 a month and Professional at €299 a month, per practice, before VAT, with every seat included. A third plan is coming soon. Full details are on the pricing page. On the iMedDoc side, any export fee is whatever iMedDoc tells you in writing, which is why it's on the list above.
