Medical Council of Ireland
Medical Council certificate of good standing
When a body wants proof that you are in good standing with the Medical Council, this is the certificate; it is applied for online.
The form itself is Medical Council of Ireland’s: the official form, on Medical Council of Ireland’s site (link checked 24 October 2026). Below is what each person fills in, where it goes, and the document we provide beside it.

What it asks for
The online applicationThe consultant completes
- Medical Council registration number
- Where the certificate is to be sent
- Fee of €50
Where it goes
- Medical practitioners apply for a certificate of current professional status online; a fee of €50 applies.
- The GMC requires the certificate to be sent directly from the Medical Council, so request that when applying for GMC purposes.
- The Medical Council does not issue the certificate by courier; any courier is arranged and paid for by the doctor.
- The Medical Council's own registration pages accept such certificates from other regulators only when dated within the last three months.
Using it well
- Ask the receiving body whether it wants the certificate sent direct; the GMC does.
- Order it close to when it is needed, since receiving bodies commonly want one dated within three months.
Open it in the sample practice
The sample practice is the real Ask Brigid on invented patients, open without a sign-up. This document joins its Library with the next sample-practice update; the Library already holds the practice’s templates.
