Vhi PVS (Patient Verification System) registration

The Vhi portal where practice staff look up a patient's level of cover and benefits before a procedure or a claim. Registration is online and needs a phone for multi-factor authentication.

The form itself is Vhi Healthcare’s: the official form, on Vhi Healthcare’s site (link checked 25 October 2026). Below is what each person fills in, where it goes, and the document we provide beside it.

What it asks for

Registration detailsThe secretary completes

  • Email address
  • First name and last name
  • Mobile number
  • Work phone number
  • Provider type
  • Provider code, or several separated by commas
  • Department type

Security detailsThe secretary completes

  • Password meeting Vhi's eight rules
  • An Android or iOS device for multi-factor authentication
  • Acceptance of the PVS terms of use

Where it goes

  • Register at app.vhi.ie/pvs/registration. Every field is mandatory and an Android or iOS device is needed to finish registration.
  • Enter the provider code Vhi uses for correspondence with the practice; more than one code goes in separated by commas.
  • Each authorised user gets their own user ID and logs in with multi-factor authentication; the terms are accepted at each login.
  • Once in, PVS shows the patient's level of Vhi cover and benefits. It is not a guarantee of payment: benefit is paid after the claim is adjudicated against the plan held on the date of service.

Using it well

  • Register each person separately: the terms forbid sharing a login, and a shared one is withdrawn.
  • Keep the provider code to hand; it goes on the registration and on Vhi correspondence.
  • Note the cover check in the chart with the date; PVS confirms cover, not payment.

Ask Brigid has no connection to Vhi's PVS. Cover is checked on Vhi's portal and the practice records the result; insurer claim submission is not in the launch release.

Open it in the sample practice

The sample practice is the real Ask Brigid on invented patients, open without a sign-up. This document joins its Library with the next sample-practice update; the Library already holds the practice’s templates.

Questions

What is Vhi PVS?

Vhi's Patient Verification System, the online portal where a hospital, practitioner or practitioner secretary checks a patient's level of Vhi cover and benefits.

Who can register for PVS?

The registration form offers Hospital/Treatment Centre, Practitioner, Practitioner Secretary and Other. The terms of use also admit a billing agent appointed under the consultant's Vhi Consultant Agreement.

Do I need a phone to register?

Yes. Vhi's registration page says an Android or iOS device is needed to complete PVS registration; it carries the multi-factor authentication.

Does a PVS check mean Vhi will pay?

No. The terms say provision of member and product details is not a guarantee of payment; benefit is paid after the claim is adjudicated for the plan held on the date of service.

Can a secretary check PVS from home?

Vhi's terms say PVS should not be accessed from home or from any site outside the provider's workspace, that screens must be visible only to the authorised user, and that nothing retrieved may be copied, saved, printed or sent on.

Is the e-Schedule the same login?

Vhi's terms refer to people using PVS for the sole purpose of the e-Schedule, so the Schedule of Benefits for professional fees is reached through the same system.

Who do I contact when registration or MFA fails?

PVS Support at pvs.support@vhi.ie or 01 6147399; account details and multi-factor resets go through them, not the website.

Does Ask Brigid connect to PVS?

No. Cover is checked on Vhi's own portal; the practice records the result in the chart. Ask Brigid reads nothing from Vhi's systems.

In Ask Brigid this paperwork sits beside the diary and the record: Invoices and card payments in Ask Brigid.
